Perception is a modern public seating that provides a congenial space for interaction in the post-pandemic world. Overcoming the coronavirus and returning to social norms, I noticed that people swiftly bypass each other with a developed tendency to minimize interaction.
When was the last time you engaged in a conversation with a stranger?
As a solution, Perception's opposite "pod seats" construct a communal space. The structure's overall flow advocates a sense of unity, immersing the users in a cozy and collaborative conference setting.
A Freshness to Urban Life
Perception consists a variety of height elevations, providing brand new perspectives. Urban lives often consist of a systematic schedule; however, viewing seemingly familiar surroundings from various standpoints prospers inspiration and stimulates a feeling of refreshment.
Material Considerations
Inspired by Kuskoa Bi, the world’s first bioplastic chair, Perception’s base structure uses bioplastic. This biobased polymer is fully recyclable. In fact, the material has significantly less carbon footprint throughout production, resulting in reduced greenhouse gas emissions.
The side windows are constructed with frosted glass. This establishes a mid ground between isolation and overexposure of privacy in the space.
Cushion Material
Perception’s cushion features waterproof fabric, ensuring protection against moisture and stains, making it suitable for both indoors and outdoors.
The high resilience sponge provides optimal support, evenly distributing weight and minimizing pressure points.
I also incorporated sinuous springs to enhance stability and promote proper posture.
Ideation
The structure of Perception is inspired by the Peruvian Groundcherry, a plant native to Colombia. The back structure of the Seating curves into a dome-like system precisely like how the fruit’s leaves coat its inner fruit. The Seating is primarily influenced by how the fruit protects its most fragile core.
The Incline Angle
The sitting angle is adjusted to create the perfect backrest-to-seat angle. An angle of 140 degrees grants excellent relaxation and comfort. The angle and deep and soft cushions also provide comfortable support for the thigh bone and minimize tension in the hip muscles.
